25% Improvement in Gold Output
How a comprehensive change management program transformed an open-pit gold mining operation in Tanzania.

The Challenge
A major open-pit gold mining operation in Tanzania was facing declining productivity despite significant capital investment. Equipment utilisation was below industry benchmarks, and operational bottlenecks were limiting throughput across the entire value chain — from pit to processing plant.
The operation's leadership team recognised that the barriers to improvement were not primarily technical. They were organisational: inconsistent shift handovers, unclear performance expectations, supervisors managing by reaction rather than by plan, and a culture that tolerated underperformance because "that's how we've always done it."
The board mandated a step-change in productivity — not incremental improvement, but a fundamental transformation of how the operation was managed day-to-day.

Our Approach
Jamieson Group deployed a comprehensive change management program built around our 6-barrier methodology. We began with a Business Review that quantified the gap between current performance and the operation's true potential — identifying specific opportunities worth more than 25% of current output.
The implementation phase focused on three parallel workstreams: installing a structured Management Operating System (iMOS) for daily performance management, rebuilding supervisory capability through tailored training, and embedding new behaviours through coaching and accountability systems.
Our consultants worked alongside the Tanzanian team for the duration of the program — in the pit, in the plant, and in the management meetings. This wasn't a fly-in, present-a-report, fly-out engagement. We stayed until the changes were self-sustaining.

Key Results
25% Gold Output Increase
Achieved through improved equipment utilisation, reduced downtime, and optimised blast-to-mill throughput.
30% More Tonnes Produced
Higher truck and excavator productivity delivered significantly more material moved per shift.
Sustained Beyond Engagement
iMOS embedded daily management routines that maintained performance improvements after Jamieson Group's departure.
